Why? Our country has become the first country in the world in which electronic passports in a smartphone are equated to paper documents. This was reported to the Ministry of Finance.

At the end of March, the Verkhovna Rada passed the draft law №4355 on digital passports by the votes of 302 people's deputies.

Digital passports can be presented on the territory of Ukraine for identification and confirmation of citizenship, except in cases of crossing the state border, entering and leaving the temporarily occupied territory of Ukraine.

Even now, Ukrainians can use digital passports in most life situations: they are accepted by government agencies and courts, at the post office and in supermarkets, as well as in banks, airports and hotels. From August 23, each organization will accept digital passports in Diia.

"Ukraine is the first country in the world to launch digital passports and legally equate them to ordinary documents. Diia users will no longer face situations when the digital passport is not accepted," said Minister of Digital Transformation Mykhailo Fedorov.

The Ministry of Digital Transformation launched digital passports in the Diia application in April 2020. Now they can be used by about 20 million Ukrainians. Since its launch, the use of a digital passport has been an experimental project and regulated by a relevant resolution of the Cabinet of Ministers.
